Job Description

Our client is seeking a Principal Fire Protection Engineer specialising in Fire Fighting Systems design to join their established fire safety consultancy. This consultancy-based role requires experience in designing, calculating, and proposing fire safety solutions for a variety of projects, ranging from small to large scale. You will act as a key technical expert and point of contact for clients, delivering design packages across various RIBA stages, including drawings, technical specifications, reports, and hydraulic calculations. The role involves preparing fire suppression system solutions for diverse building and industrial applications, performing system calculations, leading remote project delivery teams, and managing projects from inception to completion. You will also conduct technical reviews, assist in resolving design issues, and liaise effectively with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities. Job Responsibility

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in fire fighting systems design within a consultancy environment
  • Strong knowledge of British and International design standards and Building Regulations
  • Expertise in Fire Suppression Systems including Automatic Sprinkler Systems (Wet, Dry, Pre-action, Foam), Water Mist Systems, Gaseous Suppression Systems, Wet and Dry Riser Systems, Fire Hydrant and Hose Reel Systems, Hypoxic (Oxygen Reduction) Systems
  • Ability to prepare design packages for various RIBA stages (1-7) including drawings, specifications, reports, and hydraulic calculations
  • Proficient in performing hydraulic and system calculations (sprinkler water supplies, gas suppression agent quantities)
  • Experience in project management and leading remote project delivery teams
  • Strong client-facing and communication skills
  • Ability to conduct site surveys, inspections, and technical problem resolution
  • Competent in preparing fee proposals and conducting technical reviews
  • Intermediate-level written and oral communication skills with strong quantitative and analytical abilities
  • Relevant degree or professional qualification (BEng, MEng, PhD)
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status or working towards it
  • Clear work history demonstrating continuous professional development
  • Knowledge of relevant British and International fire safety standards and building regulations
