The role, Factory manager, is part of the Microsoft Devices Operations, in the Windows & Devices organization. The scope of this position is to manage Sub system suppliers across the company’s hardware portfolio, including design and execution of the manufacturing supply base strategy, defining business models and operational requirements, supplier selection and overall day to day supplier management, and to deliver optimized cost in a very competitive and cost-pressured industry.
Job Responsibility:
Develop and execute market-leading supply base strategy by leveraging market knowledge, industry-leading commodity cost management, and techniques to optimize total cost of ownership (TCO)
Research market, competitive, and emerging trends to drive insights into contract manufacturer capabilities and strategies
Manage end to end contract manufacturing portfolio and performance including new product commercialization and value creation initiatives
collaborate with contract manufacturing partners to execute and improve cost, quality, supply and delivery performance
Lead virtual factory team to deliver results through strong collaboration with stakeholders from various functions in Microsoft
Be the interface to Microsoft in managing supplier relationship and drive end to end operations excellence focusing on delivering best in class cost, quality and technologies
Develop supplier capabilities and drive technology roadmap visibility across Microsoft hardware businesses
Establish a comprehensive cost benchmarking program reflecting external market insights and understanding of the broader supply markets
Evaluate contract manufacturer capabilities and establish sources for new technologies in new markets as business requirements dictate
Use expertise in manufacturing, supply chain and commodity management to thoroughly analyze supplier cost structure and to deliver the most aggressive costing for services, assembly, and capital
Secure development and manufacturing services that provide competitive advantage to Microsoft in technology, cost and quality
Build alignment for organizational and behavioral changes in support of key initiatives
Requirements:
12-15 years’ experience in manufacturing, engineering, sourcing or supply chain with demonstrated work experience in contract manufacturing, preferably in high volume consumer electronics industry
Bachelor degree in Engineering, Manufacturing or Supply Chain management or related field
Current knowledge of industry trends and ability to foster and leverage professional relationships
has a broad understanding of hardware manufacturing industry, business and contractual intricacies
Capable of leading virtual factory team with ease and drive end to end solution to Cost, Quality, Availability and Technologies issues leading to successful ramp of new program in factories
Strong Project Management skills required
demonstrated experience with project management methodologies that deliver cost savings
Ability to identify and solve manufacturing operations, process and operational business challenges
working with suppliers
Experience with cross organizational management of program and has the ability to drive virtual team working with suppliers of all maturity
Strong analytic skills with the ability to synthesize complex data sets
Technically articulate and able to present businesses cases to influence stakeholders
