Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers our cloud services. As a Principal Datacenter Mechanical Engineer in the CTO Office of CO+I, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing new products and solutions that improve the performance, efficiency, and reliability of Microsoft's data centers. You will work with a cross-functional team of engineers, researchers, and business partners to identify customer needs, generate innovative ideas, and deliver high-quality solutions. You will also collaborate with external vendors and suppliers to ensure alignment with Microsoft's standards and specifications. Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the organization that builds, operates, and continuously evolves the infrastructure behind the Microsoft Cloud, powering services used by more than 95% of Fortune 500 companies. Job Responsibility

  • Design and develop mechanical systems and components for data center applications, such as structural engineering, thermal management, cooling, airflow, and acoustics
  • Perform engineering analysis, simulation, and testing to validate the functionality, performance, and reliability of the products and solutions
  • Prepare and review technical documentation, such as design specifications, drawings, test plans, test reports, and patents
  • Support the fabrication, assembly, and installation of the products and solutions in the data center environment
  • Conduct root cause analysis and troubleshooting of the products and solutions in case of issues or failures
  • Research and evaluate new technologies and trends in the mechanical engineering field and data center industry
  • Communicate and present the project status, results, and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders

  • Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related technical engineering experience OR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter
