We are looking for a dynamic, motivated attorney to support Microsoft’s Regulatory Compliance team. The Infrastructure Legal Affairs team supporting Microsoft’s Cloud Operations + Innovation division has an immediate opening In the role of Principal Corporate Counsel, Hardware Compliance Regulatory Attorney. This is a unique opportunity to help Microsoft compliantly operate its rapidly expanding global cloud and datacenter infrastructure. This role will serve as a trusted legal advisor to Microsoft’s infrastructure business and help ensure compliance with datacenter focused regulations governing Microsoft’s infrastructure hardware.
Job Responsibility
Serve as a trusted legal advisor to the CO+I business team on regulatory requirements applicable to hardware systems and infrastructure, including obligations that affect datacenter equipment design, manufacturing, sourcing, deployment, operation, and end of life management
Provide practical, business focused legal advice grounded in an understanding of how regulatory requirements impact Microsoft’s datacenter hardware across global markets
Partner closely with Microsoft engineering, supply chain, sustainability, EHS, and operations subject matter experts to interpret regulatory requirements and support scalable compliance frameworks
Advise on cross border regulatory considerations, including import/export controls and supply chain regulatory obligations applicable to hardware components, firmware, and integrated systems
Contribute to horizontal regulatory compliance initiatives in partnership with Government Affairs, sustainability, EHS, and other cross-company teams
Support Microsoft’s engagement with regulators and policy stakeholders on hardware related regulatory developments, standards, and compliance expectations
Build and maintain strong, trusted advisor relationships with business clients and senior leaders across engineering and operations organizations
Requirements
Juris Doctor Degree or international equivalent degree AND 4+ years experience as a practicing attorney at a law firm and/or in-house legal department with experience providing advice on hardware compliance regulations, including, but not limited to: product safety and conformity, chemicals and materials restrictions, supply chain, and EHS and sustainability requirements in complex, highly regulated environments, particularly for large scale infrastructure, or technology platforms
OR equivalent experience
Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction
