Job Description

An e-commerce platform with a custom-built payment system integrated with external providers. The product operates in a regulated environment and handles complex payment flows. The system is live and continuously evolving.

Job Responsibility

  • Conduct a comprehensive technical code review of the custom Shopify payment application
  • Perform architecture assessment (scalability, maintainability, integration design)
  • Execute a security review (OWASP, API security, data protection, payment-specific risks)
  • Analyze payment flows and gateway integrations (error handling, retries, edge cases, consistency)
  • Identify technical risks, vulnerabilities, and architectural gaps
  • Provide clear findings report with prioritized recommendations and improvement plan
  • Produce high-level and detailed documentation of the system and its components
  • Propose a backup / fallback plan (Plan B) in case the current developer becomes unavailable
  • Define key questions and unknowns after initial deep dive into the codebase
  • Collaborate with the client’s team to clarify architecture and business logic
  • Optionally support ongoing advisory / part-time involvement after initial review

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering with strong architecture background
  • Proven experience with payment systems and integrations
  • Strong expertise in system design, code review, and technical audits
  • Solid understanding of application security (OWASP, API security, data protection)
  • Experience working with API-based and integration-heavy systems
  • Familiarity with e-commerce platforms (Shopify or similar)
  • Ability to quickly deep dive into an existing codebase and identify risks/issues
  • Experience producing clear documentation and actionable recommendations
  • Ability to act as a technical fallback / backup engineer if needed
  • Strong communication skills (ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders)
