Plays a critical role as a part of supporting Boston Children’s Hospital pediatric cancer research. Works closely within the research lab NHP team and alongside Research Study Managers, and housing veterinary team on conducting important pre-clinical immunological research in complex non-human primate models. Ensures excellent animal care and welfare.
Job Responsibility:
Daily health and clinical observation of research animals
Monitor anesthesia and obtain vitals during sedated procedures
Prepare and administer oral, intramuscular, and intravenous research and clinical medications/study agents
Biological sampling (blood draws, bone marrow aspirates)
Support during surgical procedures and maintaining post-operative care, and tether systems
Daily communication with the team regarding animal status and project progress
Maintaining accurate research and medical records
Welfare and compliance monitoring
Requirements:
A minimum of high school level of education is required
A degree (Associates, Bachelors, etc) in Biological or animal sciences is preferred
A minimum of two years of husbandry and/or veterinary experience working with animals in a research or clinical setting
Nice to have:
Experience with nonhuman primate models preferred
Technical/sampling procedures in domestic small animal, NHP, or large animals
Experience with inhalant and injectable anesthesia induction and monitoring
Familiarity with large animal protocols, regulations, and ability to comply with IACUC requirements
