Job Description

Willis Knighton Health is seeking a distinguished and highly motivated Primary Transplant Hepatologist to lead our liver transplant program. This pivotal role carries the dual responsibility of serving as the Transplant Hepatology Medical Director and the designated UNOS Primary Transplant Hepatologist. You will lead a multidisciplinary team within a center that has performed over 2,250 transplantations since its inception. You will directly supervise an Advanced Practice Provider and collaborate closely with a second transplant Hepatologist to ensure the highest standards of clinical care and regulatory compliance.

Job Responsibility

  • Administrative Leadership: Serve as the Medical Director for Transplant Hepatology, overseeing clinical protocols, quality improvement initiatives, and program growth
  • Regulatory Oversight: Fulfill all UNOS/OPTN requirements for a Primary Transplant Physician, including ensuring program compliance and maintaining current working knowledge of liver transplantation
  • Clinical Excellence: Provide comprehensive pre and post-operative care for liver transplant recipients
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor a Physician Assistant. Collaborate with a second transplant Hepatologist to provide 24/7 program coverage
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work alongside transplant surgeons, coordinators, social workers, and dietitians to optimize patient outcomes

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution
  • ABIM Certified in Gastroenterology with a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Transplant Hepatology
  • Must meet UNOS/OPTN bylaws for designation as a Primary Transplant Hepatologist
  • Ability to obtain an unrestricted Louisiana medical license and DEA registration
