A well-established primary school in the Heathfield area of East Sussex is seeking to appoint a resilient and committed KS1 Teacher to support on a supply basis, covering daily, short-term, and long-term needs. The school is focused on creating a structured and purposeful learning environment, with a leadership team dedicated to improving outcomes and supporting staff in managing a dynamic classroom setting. Job Responsibility

  • Plan and deliver high-quality lessons in line with the KS1 curriculum (for longer-term placements)
  • Follow lesson plans and ensure continuity of learning (for short-term/daily cover)
  • Assess, monitor, and support pupil progress where required
  • Differentiate teaching to meet a range of abilities, including pupils with SEND
  • Maintain a structured, positive, and well-managed classroom environment
  • Apply effective behaviour management strategies consistently
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and school staff
  • Communicate effectively with staff and, where appropriate, parents and carers

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential
  • Experience teaching within Key Stage 1
  • Strong knowledge of the UK primary curriculum
  • Confident in delivering phonics, early reading, writing, and maths
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
  • A flexible, resilient, and proactive approach
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

Nice to have

  • Experience working in schools with diverse or complex needs
  • Strong understanding of phonics programmes (e.g. Read Write Inc, Little Wandle)
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND
  • Ability to quickly build rapport with pupils and staff
  • A consistent and adaptable teaching style
