The Press Office Manager plays a key part in the Boots External Communications team by overseeing all incoming enquiries from the media. Within a busy press office, this position is fundamental to upholding the reputation of Boots, ensuring that positive opportunities are maximised and mitigating negativity. Anticipating and preparing for emerging challenges is also key to the role to ensure ongoing reputational management, as well as the ability to cultivate strong relationships both with media and with key stakeholders internally. The team is fast-paced, supportive and fun, positioned at the heart of the organisation. Its collaborative efforts ensure that Boots is consistently showcased in a positive light, whilst safeguarding the brand’s reputation.
Job Responsibility:
Act as the main point of contact for all incoming media enquiries, ensuring prompt, accurate and appropriate responses in line with Boots policies, priorities and brand values
Monitor media trends and industry developments to anticipate emerging PR risks, providing strategic counsel and recommendations for proactive management
Collaborate with the wider External Communications team to oversee and coordinate the communications plan, ensuring campaigns and newsroom stories are organised and coordinated
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the press office, maintaining effective systems for tracking enquiries, media coverage and stakeholder engagement
Build and nurture strong relationships with journalists, influencers, and internal stakeholders to maximise positive media coverage and manage sensitive issues
Support the development and execution of crisis communication plans, ensuring timely escalation and response to reputational threats
Provide regular reports and insights on media activity, coverage, and sentiment to inform strategic decision-making
Requirements:
Extensive experience of working in a busy press office, ideally within a large retailer or consumer-facing organisation
Excellent knowledge of the news agenda, combined with strong news judgement
Expertise in crisis management, with proven experience in effectively responding to and resolving challenging situations in a calm and professional manner
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, engaging statements under pressure
Strong organisational and project management skills, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to juggle multiple priorities
Proven experience of managing media enquiries and relationships at a senior level, including the confidence to engage journalists and influence the direction of an enquiry
Demonstrable ability to anticipate, assess, and respond to reputational issues
Confident, collaborative and solution-oriented, with a proactive approach to problem-solving
High level of discretion, integrity, and professionalism
Degree or equivalent experience in PR, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related discipline
