This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in ensuring safe and effective care for patients preparing for elective surgery. You will work as clinical expert, using advanced assessments and decision-making skills to support patient throughout pre-operative process. Our nurse led team deliver pre-operative assessment to patients and works closely with anesthetics and consultants. The preassessment department is a core team within the trust that links In with all surgical specialities. It ts an MDT approach to ensure that patients that are listed for elective surgery are fully optomised pre-operatively. This is a full time position 37.5 hours per week covering Monday Friday within the preassessment department. This will be a trainee role under the guidance of senior preassessing sisters.
Job Responsibility:
Pre-operative assessment of patients awaiting elective surgery from all specialities within the trust
Assess elective surgery patients for fitness for surgery and refer to other agencies or medical teams as appropriate
Become a core member of the team responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating holistic, high quality and individualised care
Ensure all pre-operative documentation is complete and accurate and that information is stored and maintained appropriately
Collaborate with members of the multi-disciplinary team within and outside of Trust whilst empowering patients, and promoting health education and advise on prevention of ill health
Act as the patient advocate while adhering to the NMC code of Professional Conduct and the Trust Policies and Procedures
Lead follow-up of all pre-operative investigations
Cover the management of patients awaiting elective surgery
Be overall responsible for the management of your own cohort of patients including patients currently unfit for surgery
Develop individualised care plans to optimise patients for surgery, identifying and managing pre-operative risks
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safely and timely surgical readiness
Educate patients on their surgical journey, including medication adjustment, enhanced recovery programs and fasting instructions.
Requirements:
1st level registered
Significant experience at band 5 in general surgery
Evidence of post education and development toward degree level 998 or equivalent
Knowledge of current healthcare issues, quality, audit and its application, Clinical Governance, risk management, Health and Safety, confidentiality, statutory and professional requirements
Skills in increased scope of practice, effective interpersonal/communication, decision-making, influencing, team working, ability to monitor, maintain and improve service delivery, change management
IT skills and ability to utilise website resources (desirable)
