Job Description:

We have an exciting opportunity for a PR & Public Affairs Officer to join the fast-moving, high-performing RAC Press Office team. We’re famous for breakdown, insurance and now mobile servicing and repairs and have 14 years of consecutive financial growth behind us. We might be a household name that’s been around for 127 years, but we’re constantly adapting and changing to the needs of our members and the nation’s drivers. Our job is to communicate this and to keep the RAC name in the news, week-in, week-out, maintaining our reputation as the UK’s authority on all things motoring. We consistently lead the news agenda and react at pace to breaking stories. We also campaign on behalf of drivers on the issues that matter most to them. And we have a strong track record of success, regularly changing government policy and improving road safety. You’ll be doing everything from promoting our products and services to media to getting to grips with the most important motoring issues, and everything in between. This is an opportunity for the successful candidate to be part of a small team that delivers PR with a real purpose. This is a hybrid role, working 2 days a week from our Bradley Stoke office and 3 days a week from home offering flexibility while being part of a dynamic and supportive team. We offer more than a job. We offer a career with purpose.

Job Responsibility:

  • Produce high quality written press materials that secure positive, accurate coverage across national, regional, and online media

  • Draft timely, reactive statements and comments in response to fast moving motoring news
  • Proactively pitch RAC stories and press releases to the media
  • Manage press office systems and processes, including: media monitoring, coverage evaluation, media list development, and uploading releases and data-driven content to the RAC Media Centre
  • Assist in managing potential negative press arising from customer issues or motoring enquiries

  • Support the creation of presentations and briefings for meetings with ministers, MPs, and civil servants
  • Produce business briefings following major government announcements
  • Manage and respond to motoring policy correspondence sent to the CEO
  • Brief MPs and their offices on issues affecting RAC members and motorists
  • Handle MP casework related to motoring concerns, ensuring issues are resolved and the RAC’s reputation is upheld

  • agency background (Senior Account Manager/Account Director level)
  • Strong storytelling instincts, excellent writing skills and genuine passion & enthusiasm for media relations

  • An interest in data‑driven storytelling
  • proficiency in Excel is desirable (or willingness to learn)
