American Express is seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated and proactive Public Relations & Communications Executive to join its UK Corporate Affairs and Communications team. Based in London and reporting to the Director, Corporate Affairs & Communications, this role supports the delivery of public relations activity across Consumer/Brand/Experiences and B2B communications. The successful candidate will help drive media and influencer activity that promotes, protects and enhances the reputation of American Express in the UK, particularly in support of: UK Card Services (consumer and business), UK Brand, Experiences and Sponsorships, Global Merchant and Network Services. We are looking for a strong storyteller with curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to learn—someone who can help bring to life how American Express backs its customers, colleagues, and communities in the UK.
Job Responsibility:
Support the execution of PR activity for both consumer and business audiences, including campaign development, media outreach, and content creation
Contribute to the smooth running of the always-on UK press office, handling day-to-day enquiries across Personal Finance/Consumer and B2B topics with support from other team members
Support Amex’s UK sponsorship programmes (including being on-site during events) including Formula 1, the Championships Wimbledon, BST Hyde Park and All Points East
Manage social media influencer campaigns in support of UK business initiatives
Lead delivery of daily media coverage reports, plus activity reports
Project management for PR activations, media events, photoshoots, and interviews
Work closely with colleagues across the enterprise for example in social media, colleague communications and government affairs to support fully aligned and integrated campaign activity
Coordinate with external PR agencies to support campaign delivery, ensuring tasks, deadlines, and materials are on track
Build and maintain positive working relationships with a broad range of media including personal finance, consumer, lifestyle, news, business, SME and trade journalists
Draft press materials—including press releases, media statements, Q&As, briefing documents, and pitches—with guidance from senior team members
Monitor media coverage, track trends relevant to consumer spending, small business, payments, music and sports sponsorships and provide updates to the team
Assist with preparing spokespeople for interviews through research and briefing pack development
Assist in monitoring issues affecting the brand or wider industry
Support reactive issues communications under direction from senior team members
Requirements:
Experienced in public relations or communications (ideally a mix of consumer, B2B and corporate
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear and accurate content
Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to quickly absorb, analyse and synthesise complex information, ensuring accuracy, clarity and consistency across all communications and materials
Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail
Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the UK is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
