The location in Ashdown, (Arkansas, United States), is seeking talent to fill the position of Power/Utilities Assistant Superintendent. This job is full-time permanent. This is a safety-sensitive position. You will be required to successfully complete a selection process that could include interviews, an employment background check, a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen, reference verifications, aptitude tests (for some positions), and a fitness-for-duty test (for some positions).

Job Responsibility:

  • Assist the Superintendent and Supervisors with the day-to-day operations and maintenance activities for the Power and Utilities processes, which includes power boilers, turbine generators, electrical distribution, compressed air, incoming water treatment, and effluent treatment
  • Plan and establish priorities for the assigned area of responsibility
  • Closely coordinate daily operations with Recaust/Recovery and Pulp operations
  • Occasionally interact with government regulatory agencies, consultants, or other organizations and professional associations
  • Manage and lead staff associated with the Power department to achieve the department’s objectives in the areas of safety and health, performance, environmental compliance, quality, customer satisfaction, productivity, and cost
  • Promote teamwork and continuous improvement to deliver on all customer requirements and service initiatives

Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in paper, chemical, or mechanical engineering or a related field is preferred
  • 7 years or more of job-related experience in job-related operations or the equivalent
  • Complete knowledge of the pulp manufacturing process
  • Ability to effectively manage personnel
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Advanced level of knowledge and demonstrated track record in leading and managing world-class safety performance
  • Demonstrated abilities and high-level results in pulp manufacturing, maintenance planning, scheduling, quality assurance, human relations, and continuous improvement
  • Established understanding of environmental and governmental compliance laws
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage others within the Power department as a team member
  • Capacity to lead by example
  • Demonstrated track record of managing a department with a high degree of accountability at all levels

  • Lead and support investigations (e.g., deviations, atypical results, EM excursions) using structured, science-based approaches to determine root cause and implement effective corrective actions
