Appian Way Energy Partners is currently accepting applications for an Energy Market Analyst positions to work fully onsite at our office in Cambridge, MA. Power Trading Analysts are expected to work collaboratively with a broader team while also advancing their own independent projects, research, and innovation. The ideal candidate has a strong quantitative background, interest, and experience in modeling power systems and eagerness to contribute to a culture of excellence and teamwork.

Job Responsibility

  • Support decision-making and trading in U.S. electricity markets: Predict future congestion and pricing outcomes of power markets transitioning to greater renewables, storage, and electrification
  • Maintain, execute, calibrate, and continuously improve power flow models
  • Model market supply, demand, pricing, and grid congestion fundamentals for daily trading purposes and to assess long-term commercial opportunities
  • Employ economic, statistical, and machine learning methods to identify commercial opportunities
  • Track and analyze electricity markets: Develop an in-depth understanding of grid congestion and price formation in a specific power market. Markets of interest include CAISO, ERCOT, SPP, MISO, PJM, and NYISO
  • Research trends in energy policy, renewable power, transmission expansion, electrification, and demand response, and assess their commercial impact

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree and 2 years of work experience in electricity market analysis/related field, or an advanced degree in electrical engineering, operations research, or energy economics
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, and/or R
  • Experience with Optimal Power Flow (OPF) modeling tools such as PowerWorld, GE MAPS, DAYZER, Promod, Aurora, or Gridview is a plus
