Job Description

K-Line Construction is looking for a Power System Technician Journeyman/Apprentice for work within the Atlantic provinces for full-time employment. We are seeking a team player who is ambitious with a willingness to learn and grow with our organization. The successful candidate will be responsible to assist our Senior Power System Technicians in the construction, commissioning, testing and maintenance of high voltage apparatus ranging from Power Transformers, HV Breakers, Circuit Switchers, HV Switches, Relaying and GIS switchgear and more. The candidate will enroll in the Power System Technician apprenticeship program in the Province of New Brunswick.

Job Responsibility

  • Assist in the installation, testing and maintenance of various high voltage apparatus
  • Compile test results and prepare summary reports
  • Travel to client facilities across the Maritimes, Canada and the US
  • Available to respond to emergency callouts
  • Occasional work at heights
  • Work on the weekend as required to meet client needs
  • Communicate with clients
  • Demonstrate a willingness to work safely and show concern for environmental, health and safety issues in the workplace
  • Follow K-Line Health and Safety Policy, Safety Rules and Procedures

Requirements

  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited post-secondary institution or Degree in Electrical Engineering or certified tradesman in an electrical trade
  • Live in or be willing to relocate to the city of Fredericton, NB
  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience in a related field
  • Certified Power System Technician or Eligible to enroll as a Power System Technician apprentice in the province of New Brunswick
  • Motivated to learn the trade and ready to invest time to develop a long-term career
  • Familiar with apparatus found in a HV substation ie. 4kV up to 345kV
  • Competent and comfortable working with computers and spreadsheets
  • Dedicated team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to work within strict deadlines
  • Able to work in adverse weather conditions
  • Have a valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Able to work comfortably at heights
  • Able to work alone or with minimal supervision

Nice to have

Experience in substations or equipment and relay testing would be an asset
