The Power Plant Mechanic is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of building systems and equipment. The position involves routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex mechanical systems to ensure the building’s systems are operational and comply with all applicable codes and safety standards.
Job Responsibility
Repairs valves, traps, separators, strainers, and all other plumbing devices, including fixtures
May perform cutting and threading of pipes, sweating of copper tubing, and other types of plumbing connections (flared, compression, PVC, PEX, etc.
Repairs air conditioning equipment systems, plumbing, and electrical systems as required
Monitors running equipment, reads and records log entries, i.e., temperatures, pressures, flow rates, etc.
Maintains critical inventory needed to keep operations running including maintaining and accounting for tools used
Completes preventative maintenance as scheduled and maintain accurate documentation
Maintains a friendly attitude toward customers, clients, and co-workers
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable building codes and safety standards
May oversee the daily operations of the preventative maintenance program, ensuring all systems are checked and serviced regularly
May be required to monitor the work of external contractors as needed
Mentor a team of engineers providing guidance, support, and development opportunities
Promote a safe and efficient work environment, ensuring all engineering activities are conducted in compliance with company policies, local regulations, and health and safety guidelines
Requirements
Knowledge of mechanical systems and equipment, including troubleshooting and repair processes
Working knowledge of appropriate preventative maintenance of building systems to include, but not limited to, boilers, chillers, generators & refrigeration equipment
Ability to work in various environmental conditions to include, but not limited to, high temperatures, confined spaces, elevated locations, low temperatures, elevated noise levels
Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements preferred
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and schematics
Experience using multi-meters, ammeters, soldering, brazing, electrical component wiring, and other trades specific tools and equipment
Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
Demonstrated organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail
Accessible and available in the event of emergencies or when needed to meet the ongoing missions of the company
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Working knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and building management systems (BMS/BAS)
