The laboratory of Dr. Norris in the Department of Regenerative Medicine and Cell Biology is looking for a postdoctoral fellow for a new multi-year project funded by the NIH and philanthropic support with an anticipated start date of as soon as possible. The postdoc will be working on cardiovascular disease that includes heart valve disease and aspects of cardiovascular development with a focus on cell-cell and cell-ECM interations.
Job Responsibility:
Develop and conduct research in consultation with, and under the supervision of Dr. Norris
Design and implementation of experiments relevant to the project
Draft manuscripts for publication in reputable peer-reviewed scientific journals
Present work at local, national and/or international conferences
Maintain accurate and up-to-date laboratory records
Input data into electronic laboratory notebooks (LabArchives and Box)
Assist in training of graduate students and other laboratory personnel
Mentor at least 2 graduate students
Have one on one meetings with students to go over raw datasets, help with trouble shooting and experimental design and facilitate analyzing data
Work closely with PI on developing research grant proposals for the laboratory
Apply for postdoctoral fellowship awards from the NIH, American Heart Association (AHA), and/or from other internal or external sources of funding
Requirements:
PhD/MD or equivalent
Strong background in molecular biology and genetics
Keen interest in developmental biology
Experience in working with animal models
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience with grant submissions
Ability to demonstrate a significant level of independence and scientific initiative
Ability to mentor students at the graduate and undergraduate levels
Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license
Computer literacy
Ability to work rotating shifts as required
Ability to work overtime as required
Ability to learn and use new processes, tools and equipment as required
Nice to have:
Experience with performing analyses related to various omics techniques such as RNAseq, scRNAseq, ATACSeq and downstream analyses
Additional experience with performing and analyzing Whole Exome Sequencing as well as dealing with large datasets related to genome wide association studies
