Job Description:

This three-year Post Doc contract aims to respond to the challenge of harmonizing carbon storage and biodiversity for Marine Animal Forests (MAFs) into a single verifiable credit. The candidate will engage in innovative research, comparing different ecozones and working on projects OCEAN CITIZEN and MAF WORLD.

Job Responsibility:

  • Developing the first BC examination for a model tropical MAF (a floating reef module
  • Eilat)
  • Establishing BC for a temperate MAF (Tenerife)
  • Formulating an in-depth revision of the biodiversity concept with regards to a combined new concept of Carbon and Biodiversity credits associated with MAFs
  • In coordination with the MAF-WORLD network, assembling a Blue Carbon map using available information to understand biomass and carbon stocked in the structures of the MAF
  • Employing in situ experimentation to measure the carbon-biodiversity credits, considering seasonality and in specific cases also depth

Requirements:

  • PhD in marine biology with an approved field experience (publications) with MAF organisms
  • Appropriate experience in literature mining, data analyses, statistics and manuscript writing
  • Highly motivated person with the ability of developing an independent work
  • Strong communication skills and fluency in English
  • Certified and experienced SCUBA diver
  • Admitting the stay, reciprocally, in the three research localities (Barcelona, Tenerife, Eilat), as needed
  • Willing to actively participate in MAF-WORLD network and OCEAN CITIZEN activities

Spanish is a plus
