Job Description

We’re looking for a Portfolio Manager to join our team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for managing Octopus Energy’s electricity and gas portfolio, executing hedging strategies in financial markets and ensuring strict compliance with our risk policy. You’ll work at the intersection of markets, risk, data, and strategy, helping mitigate exposure to price volatility in an environment marked by regulatory change, uncertainty, and constant evolution.

Job Responsibility

  • Execute and monitor hedging strategies in organized markets (OMIP, EEX, MIBGAS) and OTC markets
  • Propose and adjust hedging strategies in line with the company’s risk policy and portfolio needs
  • Analyze market fundamentals to support hedging and pricing decisions
  • Calculate and monitor portfolio risk and performance metrics, including MtM, P&L, and VaR
  • Develop medium- and long-term forecasts for consumption, customer growth, and churn
  • Manage the procurement and tracking of Guarantees of Origin (GoOs)
  • Work cross-functionally with Finance, Procurement, and Commercial teams to align risk, pricing, and growth

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in energy markets, portfolio management, risk analysis, trading, or structured products (energy, commodities, or financial markets)
  • Strong understanding of electricity and gas markets, including forward curves, derivatives, and hedging instruments
  • Proven experience in managing price and volume risk for a customer or generation portfolio
  • Hands-on experience with forecasting, time series analysis, and scenario modelling applied to hedging and risk decisions
  • Advanced skills in Python and/or R, with working knowledge of SQL for data extraction and automation

Nice to have

  • Postgraduate degree in Quantitative Finance or Energy
  • Knowledge of Iberian market regulation (OMIE, OMIP, CNMC, MIBGAS)
  • Familiarity with Guarantees of Origin (GoOs) and sustainability reporting
  • Experience building BI dashboards, automated reporting, or decision-support tools
