Job Description

The Portfolio Manager is a key member of the commercial banking coverage team, responsible for the active management of a portfolio of commercial loans and related credit exposure. This role combines hands‑on portfolio management with transaction execution, credit analysis, risk assessment, and documentation of credit decisions. The Portfolio Manager II partners closely with Relationship Managers, Credit Risk, and internal stakeholders to ensure strong risk management, policy compliance, and high‑quality client service. This role requires a hands‑on credit professional with direct portfolio responsibility and experience operating in a regulated regional or super‑regional bank environment. This is not a relationship‑management or FP&A‑focused role.

Job Responsibility

  • Manage an assigned portfolio of commercial loans and ancillary credit exposure
  • Perform ongoing financial statement analysis, borrower monitoring, and risk assessments
  • Conduct annual and interim reviews, renewals, amendments, and waivers
  • Perform risk rating assessments, covenant compliance monitoring, borrowing base analysis, and policy interpretation
  • Identify early warning signals and proactively communicate credit concerns to business and risk partners
  • Lead or significantly contribute to credit underwriting packages for: New credit facilities, Refinancings and renewals, Amendments, extensions, and credit increases
  • Structure credit solutions, including covenant packages, collateral evaluation, guarantees, and mitigants
  • Partner closely with Relationship Managers, Credit Risk, and Legal through approval and documentation

Requirements

  • 6–10 years of experience in commercial banking, corporate banking, or portfolio management
  • Prior experience as a Portfolio Manager, Credit Officer, Senior Credit Analyst, or Associate Relationship Manager
  • Direct responsibility for managing a commercial loan portfolio (not solely underwriting support)
  • Experience at a regional or super‑regional bank (e.g., Fifth Third, PNC, Truist, Regions, Huntington, KeyBank, U.S. Bank, etc.)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
