The Lax Kw'alaams Recreation Department has an exciting and immediate opening for a Casual Pool Operator/Maintenance Worker. As a key member of the team, this role is responsible for: Pool Operator - The safe and efficient operation of the facility's swimming pool and related equipment. This role ensures that water quality, cleanliness, and safety standards are maintained at all times in compliance with local health and safety regulations. The Pool Operator works closely with maintenance staff, lifeguards, and management to provide a safe, enjoyable experience for all patrons. Maintenance Worker - The operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of facility equipment and infrastructure to ensure a safe and functional environment. Performs preventative and corrective maintenance on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and building systems while responding to operational and safety concerns. Monitors and maintains facility systems to support efficient day-to-day operations. All work is performed in accordance with applicable health, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Job Responsibility
Monitor and maintain proper chemical balance in pool water (chlorine, pH, alkalinity, etc.)
Perform routine water testing and record results accurately
Operate, inspect, and maintain pool filtration, circulation, and heating systems
Clean pool decks, skimmers, drains, change rooms and surrounding areas as needed
Ensure compliance with all local and state health department codes
Perform daily inspections of pumps, filters, valves, and chemical feed systems
Identify and report maintenance issues or equipment malfunctions promptly
Assist in minor repairs and preventive maintenance tasks
Maintain inventory of pool chemicals and supplies
Keep detail logs of any maintenance issues and submit reports
Ensure all safety equipment is in good working condition
Enforce facility safety rules and regulations
Respond appropriately to emergencies or hazardous situations
Maintain up-to-date certifications and knowledge of safety standards
Work closely with lifeguards, supervisors, and facility staff to coordinate pool operations
Provide courteous assistance to patrons when needed
Assist in promoting and supporting various recreational programs and activities
Operate, monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain building systems including HVAC, boilers, building automation systems, and associated controls
Program and monitor energy management systems and calibrate sensors, controllers, and monitoring equipment
Maintain and test building safety systems, alarms, and hazardous material detection equipment
Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs to building structures, equipment, and facility systems
Maintain facility assets including flooring, doors, plumbing fixtures, lighting, exercise equipment, steam rooms, waterslides, and related components
Perform minor construction, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting work as required
Respond to equipment failures, alarms, and facility emergencies
Develop and carry out preventative maintenance programs and schedules
Identify maintenance requirements and recommend repairs, replacements, and equipment purchases
Safeguard facility assets and ensure equipment remains in safe operating condition
Monitor and inspect work completed by contractors and service providers
Fill out maintenance records, work orders, inspection reports, and other operational documentation
Transport, store, and manage tools, equipment, parts, and supplies required for facility operations
Comply with occupational health and safety requirements and promote safe work practices
Attend required training and communicate effectively with supervisors, contractors, staff, and the public
Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent
Related experience in building maintenance automation and operation (Asset)
1-year related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience (Asset)
Valid Driver's License (Class 5) (Asset)

Related technical courses or trades training
Pool Operator Levels 1 & 2 (minimum 32 hours)
WHMIS Certificate
Occupational First Aid (OFA) Certificate
Fifth Class Power Engineering Trades Certification
