As a Polysom Tech, you will perform diagnostic sleep procedures per physician orders and established protocols. Every day you will set up the lab, prepare patients, conduct and evaluate polysomnograms, score sleep staging, assist with data tabulation, and monitor/adjust equipment. To be successful, you will possess thorough knowledge of sleep monitoring equipment, maintain skills through education, and participate in quality assurance under Sleep Lab Manager supervision, ensuring diagnostic accuracy and patient safety.
Job Responsibility:
Perform diagnostic sleep procedures per physician orders and established protocols
Set up the lab, prepare patients, conduct and evaluate polysomnograms, score sleep staging, assist with data tabulation, and monitor/adjust equipment
Provide for the assessment and evaluation of the appropriateness and effectiveness of diagnostic testing based on patients’ age, cognitive and physical abilities, and/or developmental needs
Communicate to the physician of pertinent patient data
Initiate and monitor overnight testing procedures in accordance with American Academy of Sleep Medicine and within the guidelines of all regulating/governing bodies
Communicate a professional attitude with patients, visitors and other hospital personnel
Practice strict ethical enforcement of protected medical and employee confidentiality
Operate in full compliance with organization’s safety program
Respond to all emergency preparedness situations as appropriate
Utilize standard precaution and assure unit’s equipment is ready for safe operation
Participate in quality assurance programs as directed
Assume responsibility for personal and professional growth through participation in department meetings, in-service programs and continuing education programs
Fulfill yearly education requirements as stated by policy
Participate in clinical/didactic education of Respiratory Therapy/Sleep Technology students
Requirements:
Registered Polysomnographic Technologist, within 6 months
Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire
