Job Description

Block is one company built from many blocks, all united by the same purpose of economic empowerment. The blocks that form our foundational teams — People, Finance, Counsel, Hardware, Information Security, Platform Infrastructure Engineering, and more — provide support and guidance at the corporate level. They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block. The role This role sits at the intersection of policy and communications across Block and its brands. You will help define how Block shows up in public conversations about financial access and the future of money. You'll translate complex policy and regulatory developments into clear, credible narratives rooted in the experiences of our customers and sellers. You will help ensure Block speaks with a coherent, trusted voice across our brands Square and Cash App, as well as our broader ecosystem, especially in moments where technology and public trust converge.

Job Responsibility

  • Lead communications strategy across Block's policy and external affairs work to drive economic empowerment for our customers and sellers
  • Partner closely with Policy, Legal, Risk, and other business teams to shape external narratives
  • Ensure Block's policy positions are accurately and clearly reflected in external communications, particularly in high-visibility moments
  • Advance Block's policy positions through ongoing engagement across channels, including media, digital platforms, and key industry forums
  • Build and manage external engagement strategies, including media relationships, op-eds, editorial boards, as well as industry dialogues, and support broader corporate communications efforts, including high-priority company initiatives as needed
  • Ensure Block's voice in policy conversations is clear, consistent, and trusted
  • Translate complex regulatory issues into simple, durable narratives that resonate externally

Requirements

  • Strategic storyteller and operator with a background in policy communications, public affairs, or issues-driven storytelling in a technology or regulated environment
  • A builder's mindset. We're actively rebuilding the tools, workflows, and playbooks of a modern communications function, and we want someone who sees friction in how work gets done and feels compelled to fix it
  • Strong judgment and the ability to navigate complex, high-stakes external situations
  • Ability to translate dense policy topics into clear, human language and operate effectively across product, engineering, legal, and business teams
  • Excellent writing skills, experience engaging external stakeholders, and a proactive mindset focused on shaping narratives and building understanding, not just responding to events

What we offer

  • Remote work
  • medical insurance
  • flexible time off
  • retirement savings plans
  • modern family planning
