Policy Advisor in Nesta’s Policy Team, focusing on early years and related policy in relation to the UK Government. This is a 12-month parental leave cover, open to secondment arrangements. The role involves working at the intersection of the A Fairer Start mission and wider governmental policy priorities.
Job Responsibility:
Write incisive policy notes to policymakers
Conduct research and draw on expertise to test, improve and promote policy proposals
Cultivate strong relationships with external experts and policymakers
Promote a more experimental ‘test and learn’ approach to policy development
Support the commissioning of new analysis, tools or products for policymakers
Develop and deliver targeted convening activities
Keep on top of policy debates and identify opportunities for impact
Work collaboratively with colleagues across the team
Requirements:
Excellent writing and communication: draft policy proposals clearly and concisely
Technically savvy: interpret and synthesise quantitative data, review academic evidence and policy papers
Strong interpersonal skills: appetite to engage and persuade external stakeholders
Independent: ability to work independently, identify priorities and develop new ideas
Outcome-focused problem-solver: invested in the end goal
Organised project manager: highly organised, able to scope and manage work
Domestic policy wonk: excellent understanding of and interest in domestic policy

Background in the early years and wider policy landscape is desirable but not essential
