Performs variety of duties as a sworn peace officer related to the protection of life and property, enforcement of criminal and traffic laws, prevention of crime, preservation of the public peace, apprehension of suspected law violators, and the rendering of aid or service in accordance with the mission, goals, and objectives of the GSU Division of Public Safety. Assists the shift sergeant with first line supervisory responsibilities and provides field assistance to personnel. Acts in the capacity of a sergeant in the absence of, or at the direction of the sergeant.
Job Responsibility:
Perform all duties outlined in the police officer job description
Assist field training officers with the supervision, training, evaluation, and mentoring of entry-level police officers
provide guidance and support to subordinate personnel
As directed by the sergeant, directs, and supervises subordinate personnel
in the absence of a sergeant, performs the duties and responsibilities of a police sergeant
Monitor work activities and assists sergeant with periodic personnel and equipment inspections to ensure compliance with established policies, procedures, and directives
Initiate and/or authorize the issuance of Eagle Alert - Emergency Notifications in accordance with the Jeanne Clery Act
Fulfill annual professional development/training requirements as prescribed by the Georgia P.O.S.T. Council, Georgia Southern University, and the Division of Public Safety
Promote positive campus relations through delivery of crime prevention programming and active involvement in campus events
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
Georgia P.O.S.T. Basic Peace Officer Certification (in good standing)
Georgia P.O.S.T. Supervision Certification
Georgia P.O.S.T. Field Training Officer Certification
Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated (Class C or higher)
Three (3) or more years of related experience
Nice to have:
Possession of requisite Georgia P.O.S.T. specialty / career development certifications
Associate's degree or at least 30 semester hours of earned academic credit
Four (4) or more years of law enforcement experience
