The City of Lexington is seeking an experienced, proactive, and community-oriented professional to serve as the Chief of Police. The Chief will provide strategic leadership, manage day-to-day department operations, oversee budget administration, and foster positive community relations. This role requires high ethical standards, strong administrative skills, and a commitment to modern, transparent policing.
Job Responsibility:
Direct all police department personnel, including hiring, training, disciplining, and evaluating the performance of officers and staff
Maintain strong community relations by attending public meetings, addressing citizen concerns, and implementing crime prevention programs
Oversee patrol efforts, investigations, traffic services, and emergency response planning
Develop, present, and control the department's annual budget, including equipment procurement and allocation
Prepare reports for the City Council/Mayor regarding departmental activities and crime trends
Requirements:
At least 2-5 years of comprehensive law enforcement experience, with at least 2 years in a command or supervisory role (Lieutenant or higher)
Current certification by the State Board on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Training
Proven ability in strategic planning, budgeting, personnel management, and public speaking
