Job Description

Works under the general direction of the Building Commissioner/Chief of Inspections, as delegated by the Mayor or Municipal Council under the statutory authority of the General Laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, directs, supervises, coordinates and participates in the work of enforcing laws, regulations and ordinances relating to inspection of plumbing and gas fitting installations. This is a city of Taunton Management Association (COTMA) position

Job Responsibility

  • Inspect/test gas piping systems in process of construction, alteration, replacement and repair for adherence to regulations and codes
  • Inspect installations of appliances, fixtures, water heaters and boilers for proper installation and leaks
  • Investigate complaints of old and potentially dangerous gas fitting installations, violations of laws and hazardous and defective materials
  • Examine plans, interpret, give advice on and enforce gas fitting and plumbing laws
  • Issue permits for installations, alteration, and repair of plumbing and gas systems
  • Investigate complaints of violations, issue orders for corrections and keep necessary records
  • Carry out assignments and instruction from supervisor(s) in a competent and efficient manner
