The Plumbing and Fire Protection Systems Controller is responsible for coordinating, planning, and monitoring maintenance and repair activities to ensure timely and efficient completion of all assigned work for the Drydock plumbing, SWFLANT plumbing, Facilities Plumbing, Fire protection systems, and the SWFLANT Fire protection systems. This role ensures materials, labor, and resources are properly aligned with project requirements, and that work is executed according to contractual deadlines, safety standards, and customer expectations. The Work Scheduler serves as a key communication point between customers, shops, dispatch/scheduling teams, and project leadership to maintain accurate workflow, minimize downtime, and support overall operational performance.
Job Responsibility
Schedule, track, and expedite maintenance work
Process material requests and ensure materials are available
Coordinate access, priorities, and job requirements with customers and trade shops
Update work status and maintain accurate records in scheduling databases
Provide workload, backlog, and performance reports to management
Support process improvements that enhance planning and scheduling efficiency
Develop, organize, and process outages required for maintenance being performed
Cross training with other trades
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent
Must have two (2+) plus years of experience supporting or coordinating fire protection system maintenance, including sprinklers, standpipes, fire pumps, fire hydrants, and fire suppression equipment
Understanding of NFPA standards, especially NFPA 25 (Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems)
Knowledge of pressure testing, flow requirements, and water system safety protocols, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) and confined space considerations
Strong communication skills to translate technical requirements between field technicians, engineering teams, and scheduling/operations leadership
Computer proficiency in Windows
strong Excel skills preferred
Experience with MAXIMO or similar maintenance systems is highly desirable
Valid driver’s license, ability to pass background check/drug screening, and U.S. Citizenship.
Nice to have
Experience in facilities or preventive maintenance environments
Advanced Excel skills and prior use of MAXIMO or comparable systems
Knowledge of plumbing systems, such as potable water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, pumps, valves, backflow preventers, and domestic hot water systems
