Job Description:

Permanent Plumber – Ministry of Justice (MoJ) Account, HMP/YOI Foston Hall. This role supports His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) by ensuring facilities are safe, clean, and fully operational. Using your plumbing and maintenance expertise, you’ll help maintain the smooth running of secure premises. The Plumber plays a vital role in carrying out planned and reactive maintenance tasks safely, efficiently, and in compliance with relevant regulations.

Job Responsibility:

  • Carry out routine and non-routine maintenance work
  • Diagnose faults and identify life-expired equipment
  • Inspect, repair, and replace faulty or worn components
  • Perform water sampling, inspections, and risk assessments
  • Undertake mains water supply repairs
  • Minimise wastage and identify opportunities for process improvements
  • Ensure all statutory and compliance works are completed within deadlines
  • Work safely at height and in all weather conditions when required
  • Maintain high health and safety standards across all activities
  • Ensure all works are completed to the highest safety standards and in accordance with agreed method statements

Requirements:

  • Full UK driving licence
  • Appropriate trade qualification (Level 3)
  • Experience operating light plant and equipment
  • Ideally NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing and Heating, with relevant maintenance experience (applications with NVQ Level 2 will also be considered)

Nice to have:

  • Legionella Control (L8) certification
  • Experience working in a commercial or facilities management environment

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine layout of plumbing systems, water supply networks, and waste disposal systems
  • Possesses a strong familiarity with plumbing codes, both nationally and locally
  • Position, align, cut, join and fuse pipes together using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, soldering sealants or welding equipment
  • Measure distances, set elevations and install pipe to grade as defined in drawings and specifications
  • Practices preventive maintenance of plumbing tools and equipment
  • Procures materials, tools and rental equipment at specified times to conform to work schedules
  • Confers with supervisory personnel, owners, engineers, contractors, inspectors, material suppliers and/or equipment dealers to resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints or construction problems
