We are looking for a hands-on Plant Controller to join a manufacturing leadership team in Indianapolis, Indiana. This position plays a central role in connecting financial performance with plant operations, providing clear analysis that supports better business decisions. The ideal candidate will bring strong accounting expertise, a practical understanding of manufacturing environments, and the ability to work closely with operational leaders to improve results.
Job Responsibility
Direct the plant’s accounting activities and deliver accurate, timely financial reporting for local and corporate leadership
Lead month-end close by managing journal entries, account reconciliations, and detailed review of operating results
Oversee standard costing, inventory valuation, and cost accuracy to support reliable financial and operational reporting
Partner with plant leadership to evaluate labor, materials, overhead, scrap, yield, and efficiency trends, turning data into practical recommendations
Develop annual budgets and recurring forecasts while providing financial guidance for pricing, capital spending, and product mix decisions
Establish and maintain internal controls, documented accounting procedures, and compliance practices that protect company assets and data integrity
Coordinate internal and external audit activities and address findings through corrective actions and process improvements
Monitor cash flow, receivables, payables, credit exposure, and vendor-related financial matters to support healthy plant performance
Serve as the finance lead for plant reporting systems and collaborate with IT on enhancements, controls, and system effectiveness
Coach and develop accounting staff while promoting accountability, collaboration, and alignment with broader finance best practices
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required
At least 5 years of progressive accounting or finance leadership experience, ideally within a manufacturing setting
Demonstrated knowledge of cost accounting, inventory management, work in progress, and cost of goods sold analysis
Experience leading month-end close and preparing financial statements, forecasts, and variance analysis
Ability to build effective partnerships with operations leaders and influence business decisions through financial insight
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with ERP or accounting systems, preferably Microsoft Great Plains
Prior supervisory experience with a track record of leading and developing accounting team members

Certifications such as CPA, CMA, or MBA are preferred
