We are looking for an experienced Plant Controller to lead the financial activities of a manufacturing operation in Petersburg, Virginia. This role partners closely with plant leadership to strengthen cost visibility, support sound business decisions, and improve overall operational performance. The ideal candidate brings strong manufacturing accounting expertise, a hands-on leadership style, and the ability to translate financial data into practical recommendations.
Job Responsibility:
Direct plant-level accounting activities, including financial reporting related to inventory, production, payroll, and accounts payable
Evaluate financial and operating performance trends and present meaningful recommendations to improve results
Oversee the budgeting, forecasting, and planning cycle to support short- and long-term business objectives
Maintain compliance with corporate financial policies while reinforcing effective internal controls across the site
Work alongside operations leaders to verify material consumption, production costing, and inventory integrity
Guide, mentor, and develop the on-site accounting team to build capability and accountability
Provide financial analysis and modeling support for capital investments and key operational initiatives
Lead month-end close activities and ensure timely, accurate reconciliation of plant financial records
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
At least 5 years of accounting experience in a manufacturing environment, including cost accounting responsibilities
Demonstrated knowledge of plant financial reporting, month-end close, and account reconciliation
Strong analytical capability with advanced Excel skills and experience using business intelligence reporting tools
Background working with ERP systems such as SAP is highly desirable
Ability to communicate financial findings clearly and influence operational and leadership decisions
Prior experience in metals, steel, or other industrial manufacturing settings is preferred
CPA designation or progress toward certification is a plus
