Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Plant Accounting Supervisor to support manufacturing plant operations in Suffolk, Virginia through accurate financial reporting, cost analysis, and close activities. This position plays a key role in monitoring production-related financial data, maintaining product cost information, and helping leadership understand operational results. The role also partners closely with plant teams to strengthen reporting accuracy, uphold internal controls, and provide guidance to accounting staff in a fast-paced environment.

Job Responsibility:

  • Lead plant accounting activities related to financial reporting, departmental expense review, and monthly close processes to ensure timely and accurate results
  • Prepare and analyze recurring operational reports by gathering information from multiple sources, organizing data in Excel, and validating output before it is shared with management
  • Oversee daily reporting tied to yield, inventory, and labor performance, and review team-prepared reports for completeness and accuracy
  • Maintain and update bills of materials for new or revised products so product costing reflects current manufacturing conditions
  • Record journal entries, complete account reconciliations, and investigate plant variances to explain fluctuations in costs and operating performance
  • Coordinate weekly and monthly cycle counts for packaging, ingredients, and other production-related materials, then research and resolve discrepancies with cross-functional partners
  • Help enforce compliance with corporate accounting standards by supporting bill of material reviews, fixed asset controls, and audit-related activities
  • Provide training, direction, and backup support across accounting functions such as yield reporting, finished goods inventory, payroll, and other assigned areas
  • Spend time on the production floor to build understanding of plant processes and connect operational activity to financial results
  • Support people leadership activities such as assigning work, coaching staff, evaluating performance, and helping resolve team issues in alignment with company policies

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • At least 2 years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing or plant environment
  • Working knowledge of core accounting practices, including general ledger activity, journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close
  • Strong Excel skills with experience handling large data sets, performing data manipulation, and using formulas for reporting and analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to guide, train, or mentor less experienced employees or to lead accounting processes and projects
  • High level of accuracy, sound judgment, and strong problem-solving skills with the ability to research issues thoroughly
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced setting and build positive working relationships across departments
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to support other plant locations as needed

  • Review reporting related to yield, labor, and inventory to confirm completeness, accuracy, and timeliness, while providing direction and support to accounting team members
  • Coordinate cycle counts for ingredients, packaging, and other plant materials, investigate inventory variances, and collaborate with purchasing and operations to resolve issues
  • Help ensure compliance with company accounting policies, internal controls, and plant finance procedures through bill of materials review, fixed asset verification, and related activities
  • Provide leadership coverage and cross-functional support for accounting responsibilities including inventory reporting, payroll support, and other plant finance processes
  • Build strong knowledge of plant operations by spending time on the production floor and applying that understanding to cost analysis, reporting, and process improvement
  • Assist in supervising departmental workflow by helping train staff, set work priorities, and support an efficient and collaborative accounting function
