Job Description

Seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented professional to review building and site development plans for compliance with fire and life safety codes, regulations, and ordinances. This role requires strong technical expertise in fire protection systems, building plan review, and code interpretation.

Job Responsibility

  • Review and approve plans and specifications for fire alarm, fire sprinkler, and other fire suppression systems
  • Examine building construction and site development plans for compliance with applicable fire and life safety codes and regulations
  • Evaluate plans for exiting requirements, fire-resistive construction, water supply, fire hydrant placement, emergency access, and rescue access
  • Provide code interpretation and technical guidance to staff, architects, engineers, contractors, developers, building owners, and the public
  • Advise on the application and interpretation of fire safety regulations
  • Partner with permit and building review staff to support coordinated permit review
  • Provide technical expertise and training on fire and life safety requirements
  • Assist with plan review activities involving the California Building Standards Code
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in fire protection design or fire code enforcement
  • Experience with plan review and inspection of fire suppression and fire alarm systems
  • Experience with fire safety inspection and code enforcement under the California Building Standards Code

  • Note: An applicant for Certification as a Chief Structural Inspector or Structural Plans Examiner under the provisions of this section who is a graduate from an accredited school holding a Bachelor or Associate of Science Degree in Engineering, Architecture or Building Construction may be credited for three (3) years for Bachelor Degree or one (1) year for an Associate Degree of the required ten-year experience for the Structural discipline as listed above
