Job Description

Robert Half is seeking a detail‑oriented Surrogate's Court Paralegal to support a fast‑paced legal practice on a temporary basis. This role is ideal for a paralegal with hands‑on experience handling Surrogate's Court filings and client‑facing estate matters, particularly in sensitive, family‑oriented situations.

Job Responsibility

  • Surrogate's Court Filings: Prepare, assemble, and file petitions for probate, administration, and Small Estate proceedings in New York Surrogate's Court
  • Personal Representative Appointments: Guide family members through the process of appointment as Executors or Administrators, ensuring accuracy and compliance with court requirements
  • VCF Documentation Support: Assist with obtaining and organizing 9/11-related death certificates, medical records, funeral bills, and related documentation as needed
  • Case Management & Tracking: Maintain organized case files, monitor deadlines, and manage a high-volume caseload in a deadline-driven environment
  • Client Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for families, providing compassionate, clear updates on estate proceedings and guiding them through the claims and court process

Requirements

  • 1–5+ years of paralegal experience in Personal Injury, with a strong focus on New York Surrogate's Court proceedings
  • Familiarity with the New York State Surrogate's Court Procedure Act (SCPA) and applicable local rules
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly when working with grieving families
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational and case-management abilities
  • Proficiency in legal software and document management systems
  • Paralegal certificate or degree preferred

  • Demonstrated background in plaintiff-side or defense-side litigation practice
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is strongly valued: personal injury, catastrophic injury, medical malpractice, civil rights, sexual abuse, mass tort, insurance defense, or other complex litigation

  • Manage large volumes of records and pleadings for multi-party or otherwise complex matters, ensuring materials are accessible and logically organized
  • Submit pleadings and other legal documents through Pennsylvania state and federal e-filing systems in accordance with court rules and deadlines
