Job Description:

This is a 64-hour biweekly position. MacLeod Victoria Haven Nursing Home is a 54-bed MacLeod Cares facility located on a quiet street in the New Aberdeen district of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. Operating under MacLeod Group Health Services Limited (MGHSL), MacLeod Cares offers a positive, fair, fun, and productive workplace where you can grow your career. Under the clinical supervision of the Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist, the Physiotherapist Assistant supports the OT and PT services offered within MGHSL Homes. The Physiotherapy Assistant reports directly to the Director of Facility and Resident Care and/or Director of Resident & Employee Programs.

Job Responsibility:

  • Supports the OT and PT services offered within MGHSL Homes
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of staff occupational health and safety initiatives, including staff training and support
  • Establishing and maintaining a positive working relationship with the residents and staff
  • Promote a person-centered care approach by encouraging residents to exercise freedom of choice, to participate in programs, and enhance independence

Requirements:

  • PT Assistant course or acceptable equivalent
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in Long Term Care
  • Current certification First Aid/CPR
  • Excellent verbal and written communications
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Able to work with a minimum of supervision
  • Physical ability to assist in the transfer and the support of residents, must meet the expectations listed in the JSA
  • Excellent time management skills, multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision
  • Problem identification and problem resolution skills
  • High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability
  • Strong morals and ethics, along with a commitment to patient privacy
