Job Responsibility:
Inpatient Admissions: Evaluate and admit patients from the Emergency Department (ED) and other facilities, formulating initial diagnosis and treatment plans
Clinical Management: Provide direct patient care, including prescribing medications, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and managing acute changes in patient status
Emergency Response: Lead or participate in Rapid Response and Code Blue teams as the primary overnight responder
Medical Supervision: Supervise residents, medical students, and Advanced Practice Clinicians (APCs) during nighttime clinical activities
Transitions of Care: Conduct thorough handoffs to daytime teams to ensure continuity and safety in patient care
Consultative Services: Provide medical consultations for specialty services (e.g., surgical or psychiatric units) as requested
Requirements:
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution
Completion of an accredited residency in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
Valid, unrestricted state medical license and current DEA registration
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
Clinical Independence: Ability to make critical clinical decisions and manage complex cases with limited immediate specialty support
Procedural Skills: Competence in or willingness to learn procedures such as central line placement and intubation is often preferred
Communication: Exceptional verbal and written skills for coordinating with the ED, daytime hospitalists, and patient families
Efficiency: Strong multitasking and prioritization skills to manage high-volume overnight admissions and acute floor issues
Nice to have:
Procedural Skills: Competence in or willingness to learn procedures such as central line placement and intubation is often preferred
