Job Responsibility:
Serves as a Clinical Director at a Bureau of Prisons’ (BOP) federal correctional facility
Functions as the primary physician for a full scope and range of medical services to the inmates confined at this facility
Responsible for clinical care provided at the institution, including reviewing applications and credentials for membership to the medical staff
Interviewing prospective physicians and mid-level providers
Implementing and monitoring in-house Continuing Professional Education (CPE) training
Maintaining the quality of health records
Supervising Physicians (if applicable), and evaluating patient care through an ongoing quality assurance program that identifies problems and their resolution
Responsible for all health care delivered
Responsibility to consult with other health care providers to provide training and mentoring and to be directly involved with the evaluation and treatment of severely ill and medically complex patient care problems
Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution
The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and is performed on a regular and recurring basis
Requirements:
U.S. Citizenship is Required
Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from an accredited school in the United States or Canada
Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States
Graduate Training: At least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting (e.g., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program)
Additional Requirements: Applicants must have 5 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled OR equivalent experience and training
Experience in making decisions relative to consultation with members of medical and institutional staff
Experience in providing clinical care, interviewing prospective physicians and mid-level practitioners, supervising Physicians, and evaluating patient care through an ongoing quality assurance program
Experience in providing clinical oversight and is responsible for all health care delivered
Successful completion of the 'Introduction to Correctional Techniques,' three-week training course at Glynco, Georgia is required
Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of a pre-employment and panel interview, urinalysis, physical, and background investigation
All applicants are subject to, and must satisfactorily pass all screening requirements in relation to National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and credit check
All applicants not currently working in an institution will be required to complete a qualification inquiry regarding convictions of misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence in order to be authorized to carry a firearm
The Core Value Assessment (CVA) is an in-person assessment that must be facilitated at a Bureau of Prisons Human Resource Servicing office
On the day of the scheduled interview, a CVA will be administered
The applicant assessment must be completed within a 70 minute time period and a passing score of 68 must be obtained
Initial appointment to a supervisory/managerial position requires a one-year probationary period
