Job Description:

A hospital in Rhode Island is seeking a locum tenens physician assistant for ongoing coverage. This full-time role is 100% hospital-based and includes surgical cases, first assist duties, rounding, and pre/post-op care. Call coverage is required. Shifts are 12 hours, either 8 a.m.–8 p.m. or 8 p.m.–8 a.m. Consult volumes vary, averaging 0–8 patients per day. The facility uses Meditech and Athena EMR systems and requires BLS and ACLS certifications.

  • Perform daily patient rounds and follow up on all patients and consults including physical exams, diagnostic and therapeutic intervention and ordering routine labs, diagnostic tests and consults
  • Perform a variety of procedures, not limited to, phlebotomy, insertion and removal of chest tubes, management of pleurovacs, surgical drains, percutaneous tubes, insertion and management of NGT, DHT, foley catheters, simple wound closures
  • Provide patient education and participate in the education of surgical residents, fellow PA’s, nurses and students
  • Perform BLS and ACLS measures as needed
  • Be the primary responding clinician receiving pages from the nursing staff regarding patient care
  • Write and sign progress notes
