Job Description

Kelsey-Seybold Clinic is actively recruiting a Physician’s Assistant to assist in the Orthopedic Clinic alongside a busy Orthopedic surgeon. The job combines independent and collaborative practice in the office and assisting with surgery in the hospital and ambulatory surgery setting.

Job Responsibility

  • Assisting the orthopedic surgeons in the clinic setting
  • Conducting new and existing patient orthopedic examinations
  • Developing treatment plans, adjusting and prescribing medications
  • Performing in-clinic procedures, conducting pre-operative assessments
  • Explaining the surgical procedure to the patient
  • Assisting the orthopedic surgeon in the OR on an as needed basis and conducting hospital rounds

Requirements

  • Certification through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), or the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Current Licensure through the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners OR Licensed Physician Assistant by the Texas State Medical Board
  • Must be available between the hours of 8a-5p
  • Will require weekend phone On Call coverage

  • Follows through with necessary procedure or test requests, pre-approved care algorithms, new appointment times and referrals to other facilities or services
  • Communicates with Physician/APC and other members of the health care team to ensure smooth clinic flow and adjusts as necessary
  • May perform basic and advanced clinical support tasks or skills based on the specialty and appropriate competencies such as but not limited to removal of sutures and staples, laboratory procedures, phlebotomy, EKG, spirometry, Holter monitor application, prescription refills using approved protocols, etc., under clinical supervision
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served
