Job Description

MemorialCare Heart & Vascular Institute is seeking to add a board-certified Physician Assistant (PA) to its cardiac surgery practice at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center in beautiful southern California. The selected PA will be employed by MemorialCare Medical Group, a for-profit multi-specialty group practice affiliated with MemorialCare Medical Foundation.

Job Responsibility

  • Assists the supervising surgeon in the operating room
  • Plays an integral role in the global management of patients undergoing cardiothoracic, vascular, or aortic surgery
  • Includes all aspects of peri-operative care from performing patient histories and daily rounds to invasive surgical procedures
  • Provides patient care expertise in the postoperative acute care units, step-down units and regular floors
  • First assist in the O.R., participate in aortic clinic, endovascular vein harvesting
  • Be part of one of the larger programs on the west coast for comprehensive aortic diagnosis and treatment
  • Demonstrate proficiency in management of high acuity cardiothoracic surgical patients
  • Routinely participate in longer duration and complex OR cases
  • Demonstrate proficiency in assisting with minimally invasive surgical valve procedures
  • Maintain the flexibility to accommodate a significant number of urgent to emergent cases
  • Participate in the robust aortic surgery program
  • Understands the requirement of every 5th night on-call
  • Demonstrate proficiency with inpatient hospital care and outpatient clinic work including discharge summaries, post-op evaluations, and orders

Requirements

  • 1+ year of experience in a cardiothoracic surgery setting
  • 1+ year of first assist experience in cardiothoracic surgery
  • 1+ year second assist experience in cardiothoracic surgery
  • 1+ year of experience in endovascular vein harvesting
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Current NCCPA Board Certification required
  • Possession of or eligibility for a California medical license
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Active DEA registration

  • Prior experience with Epic EMR
  • Fellowship training in cardiothoracic surgery
