Dynamic inpatient, acute care opportunity at New Mexico’s only Level 1 trauma center and the state’s premier teaching hospital. This is a rotating position within the hospital for all adult ICU and progressive care units. As a member of the UNMH physical therapy team, you will be part of a rehab department encompassing both O.T. and P.T. You will have the opportunity to work in a variety of adult acute care units and, if desired, may rotate through the Children’s Hospital of N.M. You will work with a group of highly skilled therapists and medical teams. Educational opportunities abound. Many of our therapists also teach in the UNM Physical Therapy and/or Occupational Therapy educational programs.
Job Responsibility:
Organize and deliver medically-prescribed physical therapy to restore function and prevent disability
Evaluate patient to determine treatment goals
Consult with medical staff on patient care
Educate patient in use of specialized equipment, posture control, and therapeutic procedures
Instruct caregivers on prescribed physical therapy regimen
Adapt therapy techniques to meet patient needs
Conduct training for medical, nursing and ancillary personnel
Supervise and instruct Physical Therapy students and volunteers
Document all patient care activities

Assess home environment for modifications
Order supplies and equipment
Complete insurance documentation
Establish and maintain good rapport and effective working relationships
Enhance professional growth and development
Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
Identify and report/correct environmental conditions that may put a patient at undue risk
Report potential or actual patient safety concerns
Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Related Discipline
CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
NM Physical Therapist License or Temporary License
Nice to have:
Bilingual English, Spanish, Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo
1 year directly related experience
