Phlebotomist

• Practice positive patient identification at all times, in all job functions
• Practice HumanKindness and courtesy with all patient and co-worker interactions and maintain good communication within the department and throughout the hospital
• Follow proper isolation and hand sanitization procedures
• Follow blood collection procedures, perform venous and capillary punctures on all age groups, utilizes appropriate collection techniques to obtain samples adhering to quality and quantity requirements
• Perform Blood Bank collections, following written collection and Blood Bank banding procedures, demonstrating accuracy and good penmanship, and adhering to specimen requirements
• Maintain order and cleanliness of phlebotomy trays, stations, and storage rooms
• Maintain laboratory turnaround time, prioritizing work activities and organizing draw requests to assure efficiency and turnaround time requirements are met
• Assist with phlebotomy training under the direction of the supervisor and/or coordinator
• Specimen processing/intake and distribution to testing areas of the laboratory
• Use good judgment when problem solving and request help when needed
• Take responsibility for the department workflow and assist all members of the team to maintain department workflow and efficiency creating an atmosphere that fosters teamwork and collaboration

• High School diploma or GED
• BLS through American Heart association within 90 days of hire
• Excellent customer service and time management skills
• Phlebotomy certificate and/or 3 months phlebotomy experience is preferred
