The role is responsible for the provision of quality service in line with standards of Laboratory practice. As a key member of the frontline team, the Phlebotomist will demonstrate professional competence, team working skills and facilitate effective communication with colleagues in the hospital. The position requires a participatory approach to the development of services and structures, embracing continuous quality improvement and the management of changes necessary to achieve organisational objectives.
Job Responsibility:
Perform venepuncture and collect blood samples efficiently and safely
Ensure accurate labelling, handling and storage of specimens
Ensure prompt transportation of specimens to the laboratory
Ensure infection control and hygiene standards are adhered to
Ensure all patients are treated professionally and courteously
Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals
Maintain and clean phlebotomy equipment and work areas
Participate in a team approach to share workload
Ensure quality systems and Phlebotomy services are patient focused
Work within the laboratory Quality Management System (QMS)
Record non-conformances/adverse occurrences
Participate in team meetings
Ensure ethics procedures are followed
Maintain patient, staff and colleague confidentiality
Take personal responsibility for own professional development
Attend staff development programmes
Assist with orientation and induction of new staff
Assist in training of staff/students
Attend all mandatory training
Comply with all HR system and policy requirements
Ensure compliance with all relevant guidelines, policies, procedures and legislation

Requirements:
A nursing qualification
Certified Experience with relevant training and experience
Minimum six months experience in Phlebotomy
Good working knowledge of Phlebotomy Services
Basic knowledge of accreditation in laboratories
Team working skills

Nice to have:
Training in cannulation and/or paediatric phlebotomy
