Job Description:

Play a vital role in determining patient diagnoses and treatment by expertly performing blood collection and specimen processing, ensuring the highest level of patient care.

Job Responsibility:

  • Expertly obtain and process blood specimens via capillary or venipuncture
  • Ensure integrity, proper disposal, and timely distribution of specimens to testing areas
  • Perform clerical duties
  • Prioritize patient comfort
  • Practice positive patient identification
  • Practice HumanKindness and courtesy with all patient and co-worker interactions
  • Establish and maintain good communication within the department and with other hospital departments
  • Comply with isolation and hand sanitization procedures
  • Follow blood collection procedures
  • Perform venous and capillary punctures on all age groups of inpatient and outpatient populations
  • Utilize appropriate collection techniques to obtain quality samples and adhere to appropriate volume requirements
  • Perform Blood Bank collections
  • Follow written collection and Blood Bank banding procedures
  • Demonstrate accuracy and good penmanship
  • Adhere to specimen requirements
  • Maintain order and cleanliness of phlebotomy trays, stations and storage rooms

Requirements:

  • High School Graduate General Studies, upon hire or High School GED General Studies, upon hire
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, within 90 Days

Nice to have:

  • 3 months phlebotomy in an acute care facility
  • Phlebotomy Technician certification
