Job Description:

Join us in working on innovative methods for the virtual verification and validation of vehicle steering systems in interaction with driver assistance functions and overall vehicle behavior. The steering system has evolved from a classic connecting element between the driver and the road into a highly dynamic actuator - today it is a key component of modern driver assistance systems and automated driving. It also makes a significant contribution to brand characteristics in terms of driving feel, steering precision and safety behavior. Your work focuses on modern simulation approaches such as Model-in-the-Loop (MiL), Software-in-the-Loop (SiL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL), which can be used to realistically model and test complex system networks comprising the steering system, vehicle and assistance functions. The aim is to create a methodical foundation in order to be able to evaluate the performance and safety of steering systems at an early stage, efficiently and comprehensibly - even under the influence of the entire vehicle. You will work in an interdisciplinary team at the interface between chassis, driver assistance systems, system simulation and validation. You will combine know-how from vehicle technology, mechatronics, simulation and control engineering with modern approaches to safeguarding networked systems. The close collaboration with specialist departments, test benches and software platforms offers an exciting and practical research environment with a direct link to industrial applications.

Job Responsibility:

  • Developing a methodology for the virtual verification and validation of steering systems in interaction with vehicle and assistance functions
  • Developing and using MiL, SiL, and HiL platforms to comprehensively validate the functionality and performance of the steering system
  • Analyzing relevant influencing variables and identifying parameters that determine steering performance
  • Defining objective metrics to evaluate steering performance under realistic conditions
  • Publishing and presenting your research results in expert committees, conferences, and scientific publications

Requirements:

  • Good to very good university degree qualifying for doctoral studies in automotive engineering, mechatronics, control engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering or related fields
  • Profound knowledge in modeling dynamic systems and in simulation environments (e.g. MATLAB/Simulink, CarMaker, DYNA4, dSPACE)
  • Interest in driver assistance systems and overall vehicle dynamics
  • Independent, structured and solution-oriented way of working
  • German and English language level B1
What we offer:
  • Attractive salary & 30 vacation days (+ 24.12. and 31.12. off)
  • 35-hour week, flexible working hours, remote work
  • Special conditions for the purchase and leasing of vehicles
  • Free seminars on scientific work and interdisciplinary qualifications
  • Participation in the doctoral network for scientific exchange with science representatives and other doctoral candidates within the Volkswagen Group
