Job Description

This job is a Ph.D. internship role at HPE Labs focusing on research in energy-efficient HPC systems and related technologies. The position involves technical research contributions, innovation, and collaboration with a broader HPE innovation community. Interns will develop solutions addressing customer and partner needs while contributing to real-world applications of cutting-edge research.

Job Responsibility

  • Provide thought leadership and technical influence both internally and externally to HPE
  • Take innovative ideas and make them real, contributing along the full range from initial novel ideas to design, development, implementation, evaluation, and technology transfer
  • Collaborate with HPE Labs' research teams as well as with external partners
  • Work in alignment with HPE's broader innovation community.

Requirements

  • At least a B.Sc. equivalent in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematical discipline, and pursuing or recently completed MS/PhD
  • Development experience in compiled languages such as C, C++ or Fortran and experience with interpreted environments such as Python
  • Parallel programming experience, with programming models such as OpenMP, MPI, CUDA, OpenACC, HIP, PGAS languages, etc.
  • Ability to develop rapid understanding of select problems and opportunities
  • Deep understanding of the relevant environment, ecosystem, trends, and literature
  • Excellent research and development skills
  • Ability to innovate, make research contributions, and bring ideas to reality in compelling ways
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong systems programming and software engineering skills
  • Demonstrated ability to generate, frame, and carry out leadership research as shown, for example, by papers published in top-tier conferences or journals.

  • Own and execute the global R&D and product development strategy aligned with the business and market needs
  • Partner closely with Product Management, Market Development, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Commercial teams to drive end-to-end lifecycle execution
  • Engage directly with customers and commercial teams on complex technical programs
  • Partner with the Bioproduction Group Innovation team, other business groups, and the Corporate Innovation Council to develop next-generation products, platforms, and differentiated intellectual property
  • Drive technology collaboration across divisions and business units to accelerate innovation and leverage enterprise capabilities
