Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, assists in the preparation, dispensing, and delivery of medications. Orders and controls medication inventory. Performs billing functions for IV's, medications, and floor stock medication items. Is authorized to handle and have access to medications and medication storage areas.
Job Responsibility
Fills Pyxis, Pyxis Cubbies, & non-Pyxis medications and delivers them to the Nursing units
Assists in IV preparation
Interviews patients, family member or caretaker to obtain medication histories
Fills initial medication orders and delivers them to patient care areas
Medication inventory functions
Credits and returns to stock IV's and medications
Checks in and puts away medications and IV fluids from wholesaler and storeroom
Answers telephones and troubleshoots missing medication questions from patient care areas
Runs and fills out pharmacy information system reports
Fills stock medication orders, checks par levels, checks expiration dates, and delivers medications
Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as pertains to the work area
Performs similar or related duties as assigned
Requirements
Vocational or other technical school, certification, training or apprenticeship required beyond high school
Medical Terminology desired
No experience required
Registered Pharmacy Technician in Florida
