Pharmacy Technician in Training: Launch Your Career in Healthcare! The Pharmacy Technician Trainee is responsible for assisting the Pharmacist in medication preparation, inventory management, and distribution, requiring extreme accuracy and attention to detail. The Pharmacy Technician Trainee has responsibility for assisting licensed Technicians with controlled substances management, meeting DEA, FDA, and state regulations, and has access to and manages medication storage areas using pharmacy automation. The Pharmacy Technician Trainee applies pharmacy knowledge and experience to identify variances and outliers in clinical practice to prevent medication errors. The Pharmacy Technician fields and triages calls and questions regarding medication distribution, assisting other caregivers within their scope of practice.
Job Responsibility:
Assisting the Pharmacist in medication preparation, inventory management, and distribution
Assisting licensed Technicians with controlled substances management, meeting DEA, FDA, and state regulations
Managing medication storage areas using pharmacy automation
Applying pharmacy knowledge and experience to identify variances and outliers in clinical practice to prevent medication errors
Fielding and triaging calls and questions regarding medication distribution, assisting other caregivers within their scope of practice
Permissible activities under supervision: record prescription details
initiate/accept refill authorizations
record information in refill record or patient profile
type and affix labels
reconstitute prescription medication
retrieve, count, or pour prescription medication
prepackage drugs
prepare and package drugs for hospital inpatient dispensing
Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Obtain Pharmacy Assistant license in the state in which the employee works if available or necessary
Excellent verbal and written communication
Excellent knowledge of drug names desired with the expectation of continuing education on new drugs
