SUMMARY: Under the direction of a pharmacist assists in processing and compounding prescriptions and other drug orders. Pulls prescribed medication from shelf, enters medication charges into the computer, restocks pharmacy automation, and handles telephone inquiries. Able to perform proficiencies of Pharmacy Technician Level I. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assists pharmacists as directed, including filling orders and preparing labels. Prepares and makes deliveries to patient care areas and ancillary units. Replenishes medicine supply carts/automated dispensing devices; ensures that the pharmacy is stocked with essential drugs and pharmaceuticals. Compounds, labels, and packages pharmaceuticals. Counts, packages, and labels unit doses and fills routine orders for inspection by Pharmacists. Uses aseptic admixture technique in the horizontal or vertical laminar airflow hood as appropriate. Enters or retrieves data from established computer files. Maintains competencies as designated by Department of Pharmacy. For pharmacy techs in retail must process patient charges for pharmaceuticals as required. Adheres to TMCH organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values policies, and standards. · Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
  • One (1) year of pharmacy technician experience, preferably in an acute care setting
  • Due to insurance company requirements, incumbent must be 21 years of age or older
  • Valid Arizona driver's license
  • Licensed by the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician required
  • Heartsaver CPR (HSCPR or HSFACPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
