Job Description:

3rd year Pharmacy Intern role at CVS Health focused on transforming health care for customers. The position involves applying didactic learning from pharmacy school into real-world practice to become ready for a Pharmacist role. Under the direction of a preceptor, the intern will complete comprehensive training designed to show what it's like to be part of a pharmacy team while gaining an overview of store, district, and regional operations.

Job Responsibility:

  • Apply didactic learning from pharmacy school into real-world practice
  • Complete comprehensive training roadmap with Key Learning Experiences (KLEs)
  • Assist pharmacy team to ensure smooth pharmacy operations
  • Ensure patients' prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately
  • Provide caring service that exceeds patient expectations
  • Operate as part of pharmacy team using Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Demonstrate empathy and genuine care in customer interactions
  • Contribute to safe and inclusive culture
  • Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation (production, pick-up, drive-thru, drop-off)
  • Create heartfelt and personalized moments while serving patients
  • Offer immunizations and other services
  • Demonstrate compassionate care by solving or escalating patient problems
  • Offer to counsel and field medical questions under pharmacist supervision
  • Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers
  • Call prescribers to clarify prescriptions
  • Provide in-the-moment coaching, training, and mentoring to pharmacy team members
  • Complete basic inventory activities
  • Contribute to high-performing team
  • Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs
  • Travel to stores in the market to work shifts as needed
  • Understand and comply with all relevant laws, regulations, and professional standards
  • Deliver additional patient health care services (immunizations, point-of-care testing, staffing offsite clinics)

Requirements:

  • Accepted into, or actively enrolled in, an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy
  • Must possess, or be in the process of obtaining, valid intern and/or technician licensure as required
  • Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends
  • Ability to complete required training within designated timeframe
  • Ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time
  • Ability to pivot quickly from one task to another to meet patient and business needs
  • Ability to confirm prescription information and label accuracy, ensuring patient safety
  • Actively look for ways to help people, and do so in a friendly manner
  • Notice and understand patients' reactions, and respond appropriately
  • Use and understand verbal and written communication to interact with patients and colleagues
  • Utilize active listening by giving full attention to what others are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
  • Ability to use math to solve a problem, such as determining the total number of tablets to dispense, day's supply, and/or number of full bottles and additional bottles needed to fill a prescription
  • Identifying challenging patient or colleague interactions and choosing the best course of action when faced multiple options
  • Physical ability to be mobile and remain upright for extended periods of time, lift items, reach overhead, move fingers repetitively, extend hand(s) and arm(s) multiple directions, control precision, stoop, and have close visual acuity
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs

Nice to have:

  • 1+ years of related work experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting
  • Ability to become immunization certified
  • Ability to work in home store, and across the market in other locations, to meet business needs
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
